Secrets about all kinds of masks on the market today

Do you know how many masks are available on the market and which of them are resistant to Covid-19?

The US CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), WHO (World Health Organization), and public health officials have recommended that global people wear masks to control the spread of a new type of coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
There are currently many types of masks on the market, such as fabric masks, medical masks, N95 masks, and antibacterial masks. How are these types of masks made up? Where is it used? How many kinds of masks can protect us from coronavirus?

Join us to learn in-depth to have a correct view about the types of masks popularly sold on the market today.

1. Medical masks

Medical masks are a trendy phrase today. Almost 80% of masks sold on the market are affixed with this name. The fact is that the buyers do not understand what medical masks are, the standard, and the proper use of medical masks.

Medical Respirators are those commonly used during surgery, medical care, dentistry, or quarantine areas. These masks usually come with 3-ply medical masks, 4-ply or 5-ply medical masks consisting of nonwoven layers and antibacterial paper, antibacterial fabric or both. The layers of paper will be laid flat, the surface of the mask is usually folded, and there is a nose brace.

In these layers, the mask's outer layer will act as a waterproof layer, preventing water droplets from splashing out when chatting or sneezing. This outer layer usually has a color other than white to distinguish from the innermost layer's color.
The middle layer and the inner layer will prevent bacteria and fine dust. This layer has to do exceptionally well so that the wearer can breathe the air quickly and has to be sealed enough, so dirt does not pass through.
The innermost fabric will usually be white, this is the layer that will help create a sense of comfort for the skin when wearing the mask.

Nonwoven fabric is an indispensable ingredient for medical masks because of its excellent waterproofing and antibacterial properties. However, no matter how many layers of nonwoven a mask has, the most critical layer of a proper mask is the microfiltration layer. This is a filter layer for dust, bacteria and avoids splashing. This layer is usually made from antibacterial paper and antibacterial fabric.

Distinguish a little bit about fabric and paper antibacterial. Antibacterial fabrics can filter dust and bacteria but cannot prevent the droplets from seeping, so talking about coronavirus's effect against coronavirus will be almost ineffective. While the antibacterial paper is made from 100% Polypropylene fiber, processed by modern technology, it is much more antibacterial, waterproof, and more resistant to drops than antibacterial fabrics. The cost of the antibacterial paper mask is also higher than the antibacterial fabric.

In a nutshell, standard medical masks must have antibacterial paper, antibacterial fabric to increase their ability to kill bacteria, filter dust and resist drops.

2. Antibacterial mask

Antibacterial masks have a similar appearance to medical masks, so they are often confused with equating medical masks. The structure and purpose of these two are entirely different.

While medical masks are more commonly used in medicine, antibacterial masks are widely used in everyday life. It can be said that most of the masks available on the market are antibacterial masks.

The layers of antibacterial masks are quite similar to medical masks, meaning they are made of lightweight and breathable nonwoven fabrics. However, the difference is that the micro-filtration layer of antibacterial masks only needs antibacterial paper or antibacterial fabric to meet the antibacterial standards, while medical masks will need both.

If there are three layers, this type of antibacterial mask will effectively filter dust and antibacterial reach 80%, four layers will reach about 95%. Also, this type is resistant to drops but will not be as waterproof as medical masks.

Some high-end mask lines will be equipped with Silver Nano, increase antibacterial, extremely good anti-UV, suitable for daily use in outdoor environments.

3. Dust mask

We can thoroughly grasp the primary use of this mask just by name. This dust filter has the primary purpose of filtering out dirt, fine dust, providing you with cleaner air.

The structure of the dust mask is simply a breathable non-woven fabric, helping to protect the skin and respiratory system from the current situation

The dust filter mask structure is simply a breathable nonwoven fabric that protects the skin and respiratory system from today's increasing pollution. It can be said that this mask does not have antibacterial effects, prevents droplets from splashes, so it is utterly ineffective in the prevention of the coronavirus.

However, you can ultimately use this mask when it is no longer fluid or in a secured environment because it is relatively thin and can breathe more comfortably than other antibacterial masks.

4. N95 respirator

N95 respirator, also known as N95, is a respirator listed by the National Institute of America. This is a specially designed mask with an activated carbon layer covering the outside, covering the whole face and working to filter out microscopic particles in the air with only 0.3 microns. With such a design, this mask can filter 95% of fine dust, viruses including coronavirus. This is the best mask for the prevention of Covid-19. In addition to N95, an N99 respirator is 99% effective in preventing fine dust and bacteria.

N95's close-fitting design causes difficulty breathing, so this is not the right mask for everyday wear

However, the N95's face-hugging design causes difficulty breathing, so this is not the right mask for everyday wear. N95 was initially intended for use by health care workers to destroy livestock and poultry diseases or human infectious disease exposures. N95 is also not recommended to wear to those with respiratory illnesses, young children or the frail elderly. The price of the N95 is also relatively high compared to other types of masks.

It is unnecessary to use the N95 if you do not work in a contagious environment, close contact with infected patients or in heavily polluted smog. Please keep the N95 for medical staff in the front line.

If you feel you are working or in contact with high-risk areas, you can use the MAZA VN95 respirator, manufactured by the MAZA company, to follow NIOSH standards in the US. This mask with a 5-layer texture and one-way breathing valve helps to prevent bacteria and dust as much as possible while still breathing comfortably, reducing moisture accumulation. The price of this product is also relatively comfortable compared to the N95s on the market.

5. Cloth masks

A lot of questions are whether current fabric masks can prevent coronavirus infection or not? The answer is absolutely the world.

The essence of wearing a mask is to prevent droplets from talking, sneezing or coughing from sick people to others so that a fabric mask can do this. However, the fabric holes are quite large, so you need 2 or 3 layers of fabric masks to ensure that the droplets do not shoot out.

A downside of this type of mask is that you need to have a large amount available to change instead of washing it regularly at least once a day to avoid bacteria build up that is counterproductive, while medical masks only for single use.

According to the Ministry of Health recommendations, people should use antibacterial masks, anti-drop masks that meet standards, with the exact origin. These masks are entirely effective in preventing the spread of Covid-19 disease, replacing medical masks.
If you cannot use a specialized mask, you can use fabric masks and wash them regularly every day, using 2-3 layers of fabric masks to increase the effectiveness in preventing drops.

Wearing a mask is the first step in disease prevention. Also, people should actively rinse their mouths with saltwater or wash their hands with antiseptic water, to comply with the epidemic prevention regulations recommended by the Ministry of Health.

Note when wearing a mask

- If wearing paper masks, always wear a dark side because this is the way to distinguish it from the innermost layer. If worn incorrectly, the mask's antibacterial properties will be disabled.
- Wear a mask when in contact with people. Do not pull down the mask when talking.
- Wear a mask that fits close to your face, avoiding the gaps between the mask and your face, and using a splint to fix the mask.
- It is tough to have a mask that fits 100% to all faces, so you need to make sure your hands are clean during the adjustment process. After touching the mask, you also need to wash your hands immediately.
- Please do not touch the mask with your hands many times because it can spread the bacteria from your hands to your face.
- Please do not touch the mask's surface to remove it. Remove the handle by hand and throw it directly in the trash, limiting the maximum exposure to the used mask.
- Do not reuse single-use masks. Washing the mask once does not affect cleaning it.
- Wash hands with soap after disposing of the mask.
- Another mask should be replaced immediately if it becomes wet from sweat or any other liquid.
